The face book era!!!!

When did you come a cross facebook?

I think i first heard about it one and half years ago when i started my grad studies at the university. Some fellow students made a presentation about the new Internet. So i signed up to check it out but to be honest i didn't like it, i cancelled my account and didn't activate again.

One of the things that scared me is that they will keep my email address forever, so that if i decide to sign up for a new account and i use the same email after 6 years they will just say welcome back.

What else is facebook??
Facebook is a way to spy on your friends, what they do, who their Friends are, the more you put on your facebook account the less privacy you will have.
I admit that i am taking a look from time to time to some friend's account, this is the reason why i know somethings about it but the more i see the less i like it, all the new applications that you can add, all the information you can put to others. I liked what our professor said, now you are happy with it putting all the pictures and the information available to everyone, and in some years when you want to apply for a job your boss will check facebook and find some stuff he doesn't like and you will not get the job. He told us to be very careful with the information we upload, we have to read the privacy policies especially for such things as private pictures.

One advice, do not follow every new trend, some of them are taking more than they are giving.

Thanx for hosting this to public, people now will realize why we don’t accept their invitation to Face Book.
Eventually, people who don’t care to put their pictures and their privacy to public, finding this website is the best thing to communicate with their families and friends, especially to those who live separate, and away from where they’ve been growing up.
Aweek ago, Oprah invited the founder and CEO of Face Book, his name is Mark Zuckerberg, his idea at the beginning was create a communication website because in his point of view, our lives don’t worth it to be private.
Obviously, people like Obama’s supporters used Face Book, to join groups, create fund-raising web pages, and it helped running the campaign, people were able to follow it up by Face book.
So we can’t tell, people with different mentality liked it, other wise it wouldn’t get into us, but the point is, people still confused, misunderstood or they don’t know exactly what is working with us and what is not

I don't understand why do i need facebook to communicate with family and friends, if i want my family to see some pictures i can send them some, and if i want my friends to know what i am doing i can send them emails, i do not need a facebook account to let them know what my status is right now. And dear on the edge, in one of my classes the speech was about some girl who found a picture of herself in an add the same one she uploaded on facebook. I think that matter got resolved but thats why i am saying that we have to read the privacy conditions carefully especially for things where you give up to many information.
However, thank you for your comments and passing by on the blog Nuna, on the edge, naseem and RFH.
Just an addition to on the egde, i have never thought about the things in the weddings, i think me being outside and not attending any of these accasions made me forget that,it never happends to habe any occasion when i am on a visit, but i guess you are right.

Facebook has 170 million members, there must be a good reason why it is spreading everywhere, is it successful, the answer is no because it is not making money.

Most people who responded said it has to do with privacy issues, true but I think if you come from Arab or Muslim country, then there is a clash between your culture and Facebook culture. Egyptians are very active in Facebook and they have used it very wisely exposing corruption, human rights violation, women harrassments on the streets of cairo and criticism of Egyptian goverment. It all depends if it suits you or not. My nephew told me I have few friends in my Facebook account, I told him I do not use it plus I was invited to open the account. I really do not have the time to explore Facebook because I have other interests and still I find the day is too short, I am even falling behind in parenting duties :-)

I am not sure music lover if i got you right. You commented ( it is not making money ).
Please take a look at wikipedia
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Facebook
Actually, your comment made me look it up. When you read the section about finance you will find a lot of information. It was pretty interesting to read.
Facebook is operated by Facebook Inc. and has 700 employees with an income of 300 millions for 2008.
Facebook is full of adds and companies investing in it due to its popularity. Facebook is actually making a lot of money, they are investing in finding newer applications, applications for your mobile. If they don't earn money out of that they would not expand it in this way.

Look at the graph of Dow Jones Average, I am sure the valuation of dot.com company such as Facebook or Myspace went downhill big time, plus it is not a public company which is traded on New York Stock Exchange or Nasdaq.

Ebay over paid for Skype

http://business.timesonline.co.uk/tol/business/industry_sectors/technology/article2570267.ece

and skype has more than 400 million customers and not make enough money to satisfy Ebay and With Google Voice, it will put pressure on Skype.

Even as an investor why would I buy stocks in soical network companies as Myspace, Facebook.

Even Twitter which is growing like crazy

I prefer to use Twitter than Facebook.

Remember Americans like anything free, you start charging money they jump ship and I am the first one to do it.

Social networking is changing every day.

Wikipedia is a good source but you need to look at financial newspapers to find out the hidden truth of a company.

I love facebook. It is an easy way to keep in touch with your friends all over the world. If you do not like your privacy invaded then just don't post anything private on the site!!
